To create a human society free from Prejudices, Superstitions and Discrimination based on sex, religion, caste, creed and economic status. It strives to inculcate respect for the dignity of the human person and concern for each other, especially the underprivileged and the weaker section of the society.
To make this mission into reality it expects parents, guardians, teachers and well wishers to share this mission in spirit with the school management and co – operate whole heartedly in all its endeavors.

Our Aim
 The aim of the institution is to impart a sound education by cultivating in the pupils habits of piety, virtue, self – reliance and discipline and character formation by mans of religious and moral instructions. 

Historical Background
St. George’s Higher Secondary School is a minority Christian Educational Institution run by the Catholic Bishop of the Diocese of Darjeeling. The school was started in 1885 by the French Foreign Missionaries of Paris who came to Pedong in 1882. By 1911 it had become a full fledged middle School. The C. R. Fathers of the Abbey of St. Maurice, Switzerland took over the management of the school in 1937. The school was raised to the status of a High School through the untiring effort of Late Rev. Fr. A. Schyrr CR. It was recognized by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education in 1952.

In 1984 – 86, Fr Rene Singh, the then Headmaster, built a big new school – building. St. George’s was shifted there in the beginning of 1987. St. George’s conducts classes from I to XII. Plus 2 was started at St. George’s in 1988 and recognized by the West Bengal Council of Higher Secondary Education in 1989. The school has science stream in the +2 section with equipped practical laboratory. The school has facility of the computer science since 1995. The medium of instruction in all classes is English. St. George’s Primary School is attached to H. S. School.St. George’s is also accredited for National Institute of Open Schooling for Secondary/Sr. Secondary having capacity of 500 students. Regular classes are also arranged for the benefit of the students.

The Pledge
India is my country. All Indians are my Brothers and Sisters. I love my country and I am proud of its rich and varied heritage. I shall always strive to be worthy of it, I shall give my parents, Teachers and all Elders respect and treat everyone with courtesy. To my Country and my people, I pledge my devotion. In their well -being and prosperity alone lies my happiness.

 

Rules & Regulation 

  1. Students should be punctual to assembly and classes. No one who has been absent or late may be admitted to class without the signature of the Principal or Vice Principal.
  2. Day scholars/ Boarders who cannot return promptly after the holidays should inform the Principal / Vice Principal in writing before the school resumes after the holidays. Else they will be fined heavily or parents may be called to explain or will have their names struck off the hostel.
  3. Private tuition are not permitted. They should not in any case be ENCOURAGED. Parents must either approach the Principal if in case their son or daughter needs remedial classes / special help in certain subjects.
  4. Students in order to be promoted must pass in all subjects with a minimum of 35% in each SUBJECT. All three Terminal Examination marks will be taken into consideration for final promotion, whereby a student must obtain 35% on average.
  5. Library books must be handled with utmost care.
  6. Visitors may meet the students only with the permission of the Principal / Vice Principal.
  7. Good manners and politeness, both in speech and conduct is expected from everyone in the School.
  8. Date of birth once recorded at admission cannot be changed.
  9. After an illness a pupil must produce a doctors certificate stating that he/ she is fit to join the school
  10. All pupils are to come neatly dressed in the school uniform. Elaborate hairstyle are not permitted. Boys should have normal short hair.
  11. Any damage to the school property must be made good by the pupil concerned.
  12. Anyone absent from school for one month or more in succession without previous permission from the school authorities will be considered having left the school.
  13. Any student falling short of 85% of attendance during the year will not be promoted.
